| Cats can be very territorial as seen above by the video of our cat on the house roof. I have been able to assist "Puss" to reach a certain skill in weapons training but these days few cat schools offer small arms training. This territorial behaviour results in a lot of fighting and a lot of work for vets with fevered cats suffering from bite wounds. A lot of bites are into ligaments and tendons and are severe. Enough of these wounds are severe enough for me NOT to say..."it'll be OK without treatment" even though many are. Most are helped with a course of antibiotics and if not dehydrated some anti-inflammatory drug also. Fevered cats may be given a sub cut shot of fluids (under skin)in order for me to make the anti-inflammatory drug safer for the cat's kidneys. There are measures that help the problem...desexing reduces roaming, certain drugs given once every six months can add to the stay at home effect and some cats respond to pheromone sprays in the house by becoming more homely. |
