Commonly Ingested Toxins

Previously we touched on foods that commonly cause toxicosis in dogs and cats. However, our pets can also ingest poisons and toxins that may not be food or food related products. Here is a list of the most common toxins ingested by pets:

• Rodenticide – Rat Bait
• Paracetamol (Toxic to Cats)
• 1080 Baits – Fluoroacetate
• Lead
• Snail Bait (highly toxic)
• Cannabis
• NSAIDS - Nurofen
• Ethylene Glycol
• Lilies (cats)

All these toxins cause a varying range of clinical signs depending on the toxin ingested. All require veterinary attention if ingested and time can be crucial when dealing with these cases.

If in doubt always call the veterinarian ❗️
