Blood Lead Analyser - WIRES Grant Funding

Earlier this year we were the grateful recipient of a WIRES Grant to purchase much needed hospital equipment for wildlife patients in care with the @tasmaniawildlifehospital.

This included a lead blood analyser to reduce diagnostic timeframes for our wildlife blood samples and the purchase of two ICUs to expand in-house capabilities for wildlife critical care.

Our blood lead analyser will allow us to reduce our diagnostic timeframes for blood samples from 24-48 hours (external lab) to 15 minutes in-house. Particularly important given lead poisoning in wildlife is a recognised issue.

In Tasmania, Wedge-tailed eagles and other raptors as well as carnivores such as Tasmanian Devils and Quolls can be at risk within our farming/agricultural region.

The two new ICU units and the blood lead analyser were purchased with grant funding from WIRES through their annual National Grants Program.

🙏 Thank you WIRES for your support of wildlife in our region.
